Packing up the Christmas decorations

Well it had to happen. It is that sad time of year when all your Christmas baubles are packed up and hidden away until next December. But it is also nice to take one last look at all the decorations before you put them in the box and enjoy the memories of the special times you shared while they were hanging on the tree.

This year for the first time I designed an ornament of my own to put on our tree and before I put it away, I want to share the pattern with you. For you can always brighten January by making some decorations for next Christmas.

Instructions are in UK terminology. You can find a handy USA conversion table here.

Materials

 3mm crochet hook

2 bodkins

DK yarn in cream, light grey, dark grey and green. (I used Stylecraft  Bellissima Single Cream, Silver Lining, Smoked Pearl and Sugar Snap but any dk yarn would work).

You can purchase yarn and supplies at at love craft and amazon. (Using these links does not cost you any extra but I will earn a small commission, will help me keep posting free patterns)

Sole and heel

Use dark grey and turn boot upside down to work.

  1. Join yarn with dc at the toe of the boot. 1 dc in each stitch. In order to give the sole a solid appearance, I dc’ed into the joining stitches rather than the foundation chains. (14)
  2. 1 chain to turn, 1 dc in next 5 stitches. (5) Fasten off, weaving in ends through the double crochet on the first row so that the sole feels more solid.

Blade

Use light grey yarn and continue working with boot upturned.

  1. Use dc to join where sole meets boot, chain 2, treble into same stitch, chain 3, treble into 2nd stitch from the treble, chain 10, htr into centre stitch of heel, chain 2 plus 1 chain to turn.
  2. 1 dc in next 15 chain/stitch until first tr, then slip stitch into first tr. Fasten off.

Laces

Use green yarn and bodkin. (I found this works best using two bodkins.)

Cut approx. 60 cm yarn and thread a bodkin on either side. Start on 2nd stitch from toe and push bodkins through the crochet in the same way as you would lace a shoe.  Tie bow at top and trim ends.

As with all my patterns,  please feel free to make and sell the crochet items, however, please credit me as the designer where possible and do not sell the pattern itself.
