Border, Join and Back of Fall in New England Cushion
/
The Fall in New England Cushion Crochet Along is in its final week, where all we have left to do is join the beautiful textured squares and make the back part of the cushion cover. I hope you have enjoyed working on this crochet pillow cover, just as much I did in designing it and that you have a wonderful Autumn.
You can find the instructions for the join, border and back pieces below free below or you can buy an inexpensive ad-free pdf pattern for the full cushion.
You can purchase yarn and accessories at lovecrochet or Yarnspirations) (Using these links does not cost you any extra but I will earn a small commission that will help me keep posting free patterns).
The border is worked in the round. You do not need to turn your work after each row and you continue working in the same direction as before.
The backs are worked back and forth in rows. You should turn at the end of each row.
[Stitches written in brackets like this are all worked into the same stitch.]
For the first stitch on each row: Crochet 1 chain to move up to the next round if the round starts with double crochet. Crochet 2 chains if the round starts with a half treble crochet, and crochet 3 chains if the round starts with a treble crochet. These chains count as the first stitch in the row.
Arrange the squares in the order that you like. Join two of the squares together. To do so, hold the two squares together with the wrong sides facing each other. Then slip stich with Off White through the loops of each square that are held closest together. When you have crocheted in this manner, a neat ridge will be formed between the squares, making an attractive frame.
Repeat the above with the two remaining squares. Then crochet the two blocks of two squares together using the same method. Fasten off and weave in your ends.
Border
Round 1: Pick a colour that is not Off White. Using this colour crochet around in this sequence: dc, ch 1, skip 1, repeat.
Into each corner ch-sp you will work [dc, ch 2, dc].
Round 2: Off White: Crochet around in this sequence: dc in ch-1-sp, ch 1, skip 1.
Into each corner ch-2-sp you will work [dc, ch 2, dc].
Back piece 1
Pick one main colour – depending on the colour you choose and the amount of it left, you may want to pick one colour for back piece 1 and back piece 2.
Foundation; With main colour. Ch 57.
Row 1: Dc in second ch from hook. Dc across. (56)
Row 2- 5:Dc across. (52)
Row 6:Use another colour (you can always use the same alternate colour or switch between the other colours used on the front). Htr across. (56).
Row 3:13dc, [2dc] in ch-2-sp, 12dc, ch 2, [2dc] in ch-2-sp, 12dc, [2dc] in ch-2-sp, 13dc. (56)
Rows 4 and 5: dc across. (56)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Assembly
With the wrong sides facing outwards crochet the front and back piece 1 together. Turn so that the right sides are now facing out. Then repeat the process with back piece 2 bearing in mind that back piece 2 will overlap back piece 1.
Now insert the cushion and position the buttons on back piece 1 so that they correspond to where the cushion holes are in back piece 2. Sew the buttons into place.
Congratulations you have now finished the Fall in New England cushion.
As with all my free patternsplease feel free to make and sell the crochet items, however, please credit me as the designer where possible and do not sell the pattern itself.
I hope you enjoyed this pattern. If you crochet this pillow cover, be sure to share it with me on social media:
I am currently making a fall themed blanket of squares in approximately your colors and your squares would be lovely additions to it. Could you please tell me the finished size of your squares?
