Bringing it all together

There are some times that I never thought I would do it, but here it is: the final instalment of the 2023 crochet blanket. Last year turned into a really long year for my crochet and sadly I couldn’t finish on time. But the great thing about this blanket of the year is that you can make it in any year. Or start half way through a year. Just as you like. And now here is the pattern for the join and the border – I hope you enjoy finishing the blanket.

Pattern notes

The pattern is written using UK terminology, for a conversion chart to US terminology click this link

The squares are worked in the round. You do not need to turn your work after each row and you continue working in the same direction as before.

[Stitches written in brackets like this are all worked into the same stitch.]

For the first stitch on each row: Chain 1 to move up to the next round if the round starts with double crochet. Chain 2 if the round starts with a half treble crochet, and chain 3 if the round starts with a treble crochet. These chains count as the first stitch in the row

The Join

Arrange the squares any order you choose. I arranged mine chronologically in two sets. If you made two squares for each  month you will have four rows of six squares.

You can choose your favourite method to join the squares – I used the slip stitch method, using Hint of Silver and a 4 mm hook.

I found the best way to join was to create strips by joining all the squares to create one row and then joining the four rows.

As the squares all have different numbers of stitches on their outer edges, attention should be paid to evenly distribute the stitches along the side of the squares. I used stitch markers to help me with this.

Fasten off all ends.

Round 2: ch 1, *(tr, ch 2, tr), tr across. From * 4 times. Fasten off.

Round 3: Use Raspberry. (dc, ch 2, dc) in any corner, *ch 1, skip 1, dc. Repeat from * across. 4 times. Fasten off.
