Medic Gnome
Last year, I made a recycled cork gnome every month capturing the spirt of the month. In 2020, I decided not to continue with the monthly gnome, but thought I can do one that sums up the year or any special occassion. While we are not yet at the end of the year, I feel that this medic gnome reflects this year perfectly. In the week, that saw England (and hence me) return to lockdown, I thought it would be fitting to release the pattern for this tribute medic gnome. He/she comes dressed in scrubs and complete with a mask and a stethoscope.
This pattern is available for free on this blog, but on making the gnome, you may be inspired to make a donation to your local hospital or hospice charity.
Materials
Yarn and Colors Must Have – Green Ice
Yarn and Colors Must Have – White
Yarn and Colors Must Have – Silver
Cork (approx 4.5 cm tall and 3 cm wide) – If you don’t have a spare cork lying around you can buy a pack of recycled corks or make this cute little amigurumi cork.

Special stiches
[stitches written in brackets like this are worked into the same stitch].
Instructions
Body
Use Green Ice
Foundation round: Chain 18 and join with a slip stitch.
Round 1: Chain 1. 1 dc in each chain of the foundation round and join with a slip stitch. (18 dc)
Round 2 -6: Chain 1. 1 dc in each stitch around and join each round with a slip stitch. (18 dc)
Fasten off.
Hat
Use Green Ice
Foundation: Chain 25 and join together with a slip stitch.
Round 1: Chain 1, 1 dc in each chain around (25 dc).
Round 2: 3dc, 1 dec. Repeat 5 times. (20)
Round 3 – 4: 1 dc in each stitch around (20 dc).
Round 5: 2dc, 1 dec. Repeat 5 times. (15).
Mask
Using white
Foundation: Leaving a long tail for the straps. Chain 4.
Row 1: dc in second chain from hook. dc in each chain after. (3)
Row 2: Dc accross. (3)
Fasten off leaving a long tail. On the corners with no tail, add small lengths of white. Then tie in place on the gnome’s face.
Stethoscope
Cut an approx. 15cm length of Silver. Starting in the centre of the length, chain 2. In the second chain from the hook make three dc. Fasten off.
Aprrox. 1cm from the crochet tie both ends together. Then tie the stethoscope around the gnomes neck and trim the ends.
Congratulations, you have now made your very own tribute medic gnome gnome. As with all my free crochet patterns, you may sell finished items in small quantities but please credit Crochet Cloudberry as the designer where possible.
