The third week in January has been a funny one. Of course, like most of Europe we are in lockdown and only leaving home for certain reasons, but the rain that we had mid-week was a sure fire deterrent for leaving the house. However, it made the beautiful winter sunshine all the more welcome when it put in an appearance at the weekend.
The temperatures are still below freezing, but with the sun shining the days feel fresh rather than damp and cold. And what is more the sun shone on the weekend, meaning the I was able to enjoy a lovely, if frosty walk in our local country side. The sun was certainly the inspiration for the the next three rounds of the 2021 blanket – and you can find the free crochet pattern below as well as a few frosty snaps.
This week, I was thinking a lot about the sun (or occasional lack of it), so I made rays coming from the circle and heading into the dark blues sky.

The blanket is worked in the round. You do not need to turn your work after each row and you continue working in the same direction as before.
[Stitches written in brackets like this are all worked into the same stitch.]
For the first stitch on each row: Chain 1 to move up to the next round if the round starts with double crochet. Chain 2 if the round starts with a half treble crochet, and chain 3 if the round starts with a treble crochet. These chains count as the first stitch in the row
