Part 1 of the Winter Jewels Lapghan CAL inspired by the beautiful floral amethyst tiaras worn by members of the Russian Tsar’s family.
You will find the free crochet pattern for this granny square below, but if you prefer working from a pdf then you can buy an inexpensive ad-free pattern from my Etsy and Ravelry stores.
Finished size: Approx. 24 cm x 24 cm (9 1/2 inches by 9 1/2 inches)
You can purchase yarn and accessories atlovecrochetand Amazon. (Using these links does not cost you any extra but I will earn a small commission that will help me keep posting free crochet patterns).
The square is worked in the round. You do not need to turn your work after each row and you continue working in the same direction as before.
[Stitches written in brackets like this are all worked into the same stitch.]
For the first stitch on each row: Crochet 1 chain to move up to next round if the round starts with double crochet. Crochet 2 chains if the round starts with a half treble crochet, and crochet 3 chains if the round starts with a treble crochet. These chains count as the first stitch in the row. Join magentain any 2nd stitch to the left of a ch-3-sp. *15 sl st, skip 1 [ch 1, 3 trcl – 5 times] into ch-3-sp, ch 1, skip 1. From * 4 times. Fasten off. (80 stitches, 24 ch-1-sp)

(96 stitches) You may find during round 16 that you can only work into the back loop only due to the angle of the hook – this is fine and won’t have an effect on the pattern.

I love the inspiration for this granny square, with those beautiful Romanov jewels worn so long ago. I like to think of them being worn at grand parties in mansions among the snow. You’ve captured the amethyst’s setting in crochet very well with the 3D effect of the square. Thank you for sharing.
