2023 Crochet Blanket - free crochet pattern - February crochet square - Snowdrop Crochet Square - Crochet Cloudberry

Snowdrop Crochet Square

Who can fail to love snowdrops? I get so excited when I see their little heads peak above the frost and snow on a winter’s days – there are really a sign that life is waking up again and we have the long days of summer to look forward to.

For the February square of 2023 blanket, I just knew I had to pay tribute to these beautiful little flowers that bring such joy!

For the blanket, you will need to make two Snowdrop squares, each measuring approx. 9 inch x 9 inch (22.5 cm) when blocked. I made mine with two different coloured backgrounds, but you could make the backgrounds the same if you have a preferred colour.

Pattern notes

The pattern is written using UK terminology, for a conversion chart to US terminology click this link

The squares are worked in the round. You do not need to turn your work after each row and you continue working in the same direction as before.

[Stitches written in brackets like this are all worked into the same stitch.]

For the first stitch on each row: Chain 1 to move up to the next round if the round starts with double crochet. Chain 2 if the round starts with a half treble crochet, and chain 3 if the round starts with a treble crochet. These chains count as the first stitch in the row

For the snowdrop flower, use Hint of Silver. Work into the trs at the top of the stem. Join with a ss to first, ch3, tr into the tr of the stem, ch 3, ss into same tr. Repeat the same pattern for each tr so that you have three petals. Fasten off. Tip, if you leave longer ends, you can use them to sew the flower in place once the square is finished.
