Part 3 of the Winter Jewels Lapghan free CAL has arrived: The Sapphire Star Granny Square. Inspired by beautiful 8 legged star brooches set in diamonds.
You will find the free crochet pattern for this granny square below, but if you prefer working from a pdf then you can buy an inexpensive ad-free pattern from my Etsy andRavelry stores.
You can purchase yarn and accessories at lovecrochetand amazon. (Using these links and other affliate links on this page does not cost you any extra but I will earn a small commission that will help me keep posting free patterns).
Time: Approx. 4-5 hours
Finished size: Approx. 24 cm x 24 cm (9 1/2 inches by 9 1/2 inches)
The square is worked in the round. You do not need to turn your work after each row and you continue working in the same direction as before.
[Stitches written in brackets like this are all worked into the same stitch.]
For the first stitch on each row: Crochet 1 chain to move up to the next round if the round starts with double crochet. Crochet 2 chains if the round starts with a half treble crochet, and crochet 3 chains if the round starts with a treble crochet. These chains count as the first stitch in the row.

I like my crochet to sit flat, no matter how it is being used, e.g., tucked under you on the sofa. However, if you like a bit of movement in your crochet you can simply ignore these instructions. Using Cream, simply tack the tops of the legs over the top of the slip stitches in Empire from round 13. Sew in all the ends. If you are making the full lapghan, I would recommend not blocking until the blanket is assembled.
Hello, I tried doing the stash busting code but it’s still trying to charge me. Am I doing something wrong? I would love to get this beautiful pattern!
Hej Carrie, it sounds like you are doing the right thing. Just to check, the code is all one word “ SBCHALLENGE” – also the price will still show next to the item, but after adding the code, it should say the amount to be paid is 0.00. I hope it helps, let me know if you are still have trouble. Cat
