Snow Leopard Pillow
Crocheting in novelty yarn – I love it. And I was so excited to find really furry yarns that I just knew I had to make something with them. I wanted to work with the white fur but also wanted something to give it a slight lift and so the snow leopard came to mind; a majestic white cat with black-grey spots and the namesake of this cushion pattern. The grey-bluish tinge of Sirdar Alpine in Laurel was just perfect for the spots. And the wooden toggle buttons really give this squishy pillow an additional rustic touch. I promise once you have made this fluffy cushion, you just won’t be able to stop stroking it. And with faux fur cushions being on-trend this season, why not get your crochet hooks out…
Materials
Sirdar Alpine – Polar x 2 balls
Sirdar Alpine – Laurel x 1balls
Robin Super Chunky – Storm x 1 balls
2 x 4cm (approx. 1 ½ inch) wooden toggle buttons
Bodkin
Cushion insert 35x35cm (approx. 14 inch)

Instructions
Front using Sirdar Alpine
For every treble row, chain 2 to turn. These chains do not count as a stitch.
You are working in rows back and forth. When starting a new colour, please work in the direction you would have been working in if you were continuing with the old colour. Please note, you do not fasten off the rows worked in Polar until the last row.
Foundation: In Polar chain 22, plus 2 to chain.
Row 1: 23 tr.
Row 2: Tr across. Don’t fasten off but ch 2 and use a stitch marker to hold the stitch.
Row 3: In Laurel. Miss 2, *dc, ch 2, miss 2. Repeat from *6 more times. Fasten off.
Row 4: In Polar. 2tr, *ch1, miss 1 (the stitch you are missing is the dc in laurel), dc. Repeat from *6 more times, 1tr.
Row 5: tr across – working into the tops of the stiches from row 4 and the ch-1-spaces.
Row 6: tr across. Don’t fasten off but ch 2 and use a stitch marker to hold the stitch.
Row 7: As row 3. (As you will be starting from a different side to row, the “spots” will become offset.)
Row 8: As row 4.
Row 9: As row 5.
Row 10: As row 6.
Row 11: As row 3.
Row 12: As row 4.
Row 13. As row 5.
Row 14: As row 6. Fasen off.
Back
At the end of each row, chain 2 to turn. These do not count as a stitch.
Using Robin Super Chunky in Storm.
Foundation: Chain 23 plus 2 to turn.
Row 1. 23 tr.
Rows 2 to 15: tr across.
Assembly
Place the two pieces together with the front side facing inwards. Using the white/cream dk and the bodkin sew three sides together leaving the bottom open. (These stitches will be invisible because the fur will hide it). Turn the cover so that the right sides are now facing out. Insert the cushion.
We do not need to make buttonholes because the chunky yarn stitches allow for the toggle buttons to be threaded through. At equal intervals use the white/cream dk to sew the toggle buttons to the bottom of the wrong side of the front. You can then thread them through the back.
Depending on the bulk of your pillow insert, you may find that there are some gaps around the “spots”. This can easily be corrected with a few stitches in white/dk yarn on the back of your work. The stitches will then be hidden by the fur yarn.

I often struggle to crochet fluffy yarn but this looks like it would be worth it.

Thank you. Yes, I know what you mean, it is sometimes very difficult to find the stitches with fluffy yarn. But it really is so soft, I can’t stop stroking it 🙂
